Need more bass thump from Champ

And we all know it's evil, because it has the word "negative" in its name.

I always suspected that audiophiles prefer triodes to pentodes because triodes have a kind of internal negative feedback, that gives them their lower plate resistance. Some days it seems that the only good kind of NFB is the kind that hi-fi freaks are too dumb to spot.

For musical instrument amps we just do whatever makes it sound good.

Yeah, when I hear Champ, I think of a crappy 8" speaker. Have you tried plugging into a good 1x12 or 2x12 cabinet.?

Steve, It's funny you mention that the "audiophiles" tend to prefere triode connected pentodes or actual triodes, probably as a result of their greater linearity due to internal NFB. But I'll bet you a dollar that the same "audiophiles" will also profess that an amp with no NFB at the output has "more space between the notes" or some other ethereal BS undefinable term. I just can't get enough of the funny as $h!t stuff these guys will buy. From "audio grade" fuses to gold plated wall plug outlets. It's so laughable that even I can't help enjoying it. And I'm the kind of guy who turns the radio station when the DJ's are playing a prank on someone because I get embarrassed for the victim.

How big is your main B+ filter, go to 100uf if it is less than this.

Heap thanks for posting this MWJB. I have a 4210 Marshall combo that has always had an annoying 120 Hz hum. New filter caps have never eliminated this. Yesterday I pulled the chassis and added 25 uF caps in parallel to both the 50 uF 1st and 50 uF 2nd filter stages. The hum is now a low normal.
