  • adding an effects loop to a fender amp

    Hello Everyone!

I recently got me a fender vibrolux slverface combo. Before the purchase i completely forgot to consider the fact that one of my effects can't go before the amp, it needs an effects loop. I use a EHX Memory Man Deluxe which produces noise and hiss with the delay repeats if i go right into it with my guitar. I really love the sound of the amp though and i am thinking about the best way to add an effects loop. I couldn't find any detailed info or schematics on the web just a few companies who offer complete kits with tube or SS buffered solutions which i would have to order from the US and wait for weeks.

My question is, is buffering really necessary? Can't i just grab the signal from after the preamp and let the input level knob on my effects pedal do the adjustment? Installing a switch to bypass the loop shouldn't be a problem either. Is it possible to accomplish an effects loop that way?

I also tried the trick to use the revreb input/output as an effects loop which i found on the web somewhere. But the FX signal seems to lose all the low end if i do it like that.

    Thanks for any help!

Why don't you just sans the MM and buy a cleaner delay. MMs are old technology, notoriously noisy, and nothing special IMHO. There are much cleaner options out there that you may even prefer that may be quieter on the front end than your MM in an effects loop. And...you can skip the grief of trying to re-engineer your Vibrolux.
