  • Adding a Marshall style tone stack to a Tiny Terror

Is it possible to modding the Tiny Terror's single tone control into a tone stack similar to the one pictured below with a bass, treble and mid control?

Also are there any mods big or small which can give the tiny terror Vox style cleans, but without losing its overdrive?

I'm pretty sure that adding a TMB tonestack is going to steal some of the output, making the amp a bit quieter.
Not always a good idea with lower wattage amps.

Have you tried putting an EQ pedal on the input? A lot less trouble.

The TT doesn't even have a tonestack in the preamp. The tone control is post PI. You will lose a lot of gain by adding a tonestack to the preamp without other circuit mods. But check this out:

Same tube count and probably just as much clipping but with a tone stack.

Depends what kind of distortion you prefer- the design listed by Chuck H is heavy on the preamp gain- if that's what you want then it's perfect. If you like the sound of the LTPI distorting (a big part of the TT sound) then you may not like the linked circuit as much.

I've spent a decent amount of time playing through a tiny terror and I thought it was fine as a stand alone (distortion) amp but with any kind of pedals a real tone stack and cleaner output would be helpful. This of course assumes you're using the TT as a mostly clean amp...which it isn't really made for and frankly doesn't excel at.

You might look for an 18 watt superlite TMB schematic- I think uses the same tube count with a normal TMB control. I'm sure you could find clips out there somewhere.

The Dr. Z Monza and Komet 19 both seem to enjoy a good tonal rep and are 3 knob El84 amps with a LTPI like the tiny terror- neither of them is short on gain from the sounds I've heard. I'd love to know for sure what they are but I have a hunch the 18watt superlite circuit above is a good starting point.
