  • 5E3x2 - EL84s in place of 6V6s?

I know the EL84 and 6V6 are pretty close in many regards. Other than the proper sockets/wiring, I'm wondering if I can run EL84s in a 5E3x2? I have mine running fixed biased.

    Any comments/suggestions/warnings

I do have 1 pair of the Yellowjackets specifically for 6V6s that don't cut the power (YJ20 not YJSD) but I don't think I can mix them, right?

The OT impedance is about right but the plate voltage, with that power tranny and rectifier, could be a little high with four EL84s, especially if they are fixed bias.
The other thing is, a quad of EL84s can be over driven into massive clipping with the same drive signal that had the 6V6s singing and fully linear.
Use a very soft 5U4 rectifier and try to keep the B+ at the plates to under 350vdc.
