  • ign'ant chassis question

I have a small combo amp (1481 silvertone) that I want to bring the filter caps inside the chassis eliminating the cap can (to make room for a 10" speaker) ...
the other day I came into some printmaking supplies, specifically a copper etching plate and it crosses my mind to use a piece of this copper as a kind of patch over the hole in the aluminum chassis of the removed cap can. Would this risk a sort of imbalance in the ground current or the way heat is distributed?
I don't have an electronics background (and as such have been taking this seemingly simple mod very slowly).

I've got that amp, although I built a head cab for it. I don't see how what you're describing would cause a problem.

Feel free to cover holes in the chassis in pretty much any way that makes sense. The hidden amp troll will not object or make trouble for you. He won't mind if you leave the hole open either.

And yes, there is an amp troll and I respect his preferences.
My rants, products, services and incoherent babblings on my blog.

Thanks a bunch guys! I figure I'll a little airplane bottle of Canadian Club and a black n white cookie behind for the amp troll
