  • Hook up wire

I just did a few mods on my Jet City JCA50H all-tube head - my first that involved replacing and rerouting some components off the PCB. I used some wire I had on-hand, 16awg stranded. It worked, but it was difficult. All of the mods I did were on the preamp section of the circuit. What wire should I be using that'll make the work easier?

    Thanks!

Wow, 16 is pretty big. Keep in mind tube amps don't have very many high-current circuits so large wire isn't needed for anything other than filaments.

Get some mil spec 22awg teflon wire from apexjr.com if you want stuff that's highly resistant to melting. It makes for tidy construction!

Other than that any decent 20 or 22 gauge wire is good. Mcmaster.com has a wide selection and it's easy to order and they have very fast shipping.

Yeah - it was pretty tough to deal with. 20 or 22 is going to be a major change. I'll check that place out - thanks for the recommendation!

Teflon is superior in every way.

        I think I just paid about $17 a roll for #20, 25 feet. But it's worth it.
