  • Silvertone after a few minor mods

I picked up a 1482 that needed a little work. I cleaned the pots, and made a few common tweaks and it's sure singing now.

I love these little tone machines.

Great sounding amp you have. A while back, I picked up a small Airline that sounds really great. Amazing how good some of these cheap little amps can sound.

I've got a '55 Gibson GA-40 out in the shop. Just got it working, by replacing the de-coupling caps. Now, I've got to replace the remainder of the electrolytics in it (they just came in yesterday). Really nice old amp, but two of the pots are very scratchy. What did you use to clean your pots? I have some electrical spray cleaner, that works well on contacts. But, not very well on pots. Plus, this cleaner will attack rubber and plastics, so I'm careful as to where I spray it.

All the pots were very scratchy on this one too. I used Radio Shack Tuner Cleaner on the pots so I wouldn't destroy them. I was worried it wouldn't do a good job because other people had knocked it but it worked well for me. Contact cleaner is fine on the tube sockets but it's a little too harsh for the pots.

I'm headed for their website to see if I can order some. My local RS is just a junk hole for phone peoples, and they don't re-stock the component drawers very often. So, I wind up ordering online, and get my order withing two or three days. Thanks for the info.

They're not like they used to be but then again so are all the local wholesalers. They're mostly sales offices that ship out of a central RDC. I mostly use Mouser or Digikey for stuff these days. RS only carries the most basic components and are more about selling cell phones and cell phone accessories these days.
