I modded my 83 Marshall 800 to the #34 specs attached. I also added a Mid Sweep and Resonance pots also attached. Its ok but I was hoping for more of a Cameron Jose mod/Atomica sound. Can one of the many amp guru's on this site help me with this?

What is it with you guitar players? (I am guilty of this myself and therefore, Hippocratic)
You have a high gain amp, and you wanna make the gain higher.
Then when it's higher, you want more gain again.
There is never enough gain (according to you), you want infinnigain.
You want to turn it up to infinity, and until you can, you will never stop trying.
The alchemists of old were trying to manufacture gold.
and they were sure that the next experiment would surely yield the perfect solution.
You are not unlike them.

Having achieved infinite gain, the guitarist/amp modder then complains that the sound is "mushy" and lacks "articulation" and "note separation".
This can easily be fixed by turning the gain down and actually using the pick instead of endless hammer-on and pull-offs, but no...
I say this from personal experience: I guess I'm also guilty of Hippocracy."Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

The secret of infinnigain is known to the many amp gurus, who, incidentally possess the art of putting smoke back inside amplifiers.
They will never reveal their (voodoo / triode Jedi) secrets in public, it is forbidden.
You who seek them must find them, not by internet, but by climbing a lofty peak, a journey to where they themselves dwell upon the rock.

Im not looking to cop that exact mod just more towards the sound of it. To me it sounds like a Jose ish mod with the diode clipping switch.Thank you,

People bring me amps and ask for something like "I want the sound from Green Day..." or whoever, and I tell them I don't work from band names. There is just no way to know. When you hear recorded music it has been through not only the guys amp, but also all the things the recording engineer wanted on the sound plus whatever the mastering engineer thought appropriate. I remember Jimi Hendrix decades ago would say he'd never play All Along the Watchtower live because it could never sound like the recording.
Having said that, you might do some research at sites like Guitar Geek to find out just what gear is being used.

Agree and add: even if you find a live setup diagram (what's used in a Studio is even more complex and "nobody knows" because the Engineer adds whatever he finds useful song by song), real life is often also more complex.
As an example: Keith Richards is a "simple guy"; he "just plugs his Tele (or whatever) into some kind of Twin and rips off"
Rig diagrams show that plus a couple pedals.
But *this* is an actual picture of what he used at a concert; stuff which is invisible from the audience side.
Remember, it's Keith Richards; imagine what, say, a high speed Metal guy might be using!!
EDIT: I find it funny that the uses Tweed Fender amps .... with Celestion speakers!!!!
Even funnier, he pulled the speaker labels .... maybe he does not want to appear as their endorser or signed some kind of agreement that he should be using something else.
Probably Fender wants you to buy their regular amp, with OEM Eminences (or Webers), "to get Keith's sound".
Oh well.
That's why the general idea is that a Mod can get you closer to some particular sound, but it's not the full picture by any means, specially if you want to duplicate a specific record sound.Last edited by J M Fahey; 08-23-2012, 02:01 PM.Juan Manuel Fahey

PLus it is interesting to read Keith's book - not a bad read - where he discusses guys trying to get his sound and saying they'll never do it because he routinely takes the low E string off, playing only five, and uses open tunings a LOT. If they try for that sound with all 6 strings in conventional tune... can't do it.Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.
