  • Lowering power in the 5150 II

    Hi,
Someone over here asks for a triode/pentode switch mod done on his 5150 II
Is this feasible on this amp? I guess I will have to cut at least the four 2nd grid tracks on the pcb, and drill a hole on the back panel to hold the switch there.

Has anybody tried this mod on the 5150?

    Thank you.

(I personally don't like the "triode" sound in guitar amps)

Anything is possible, it is all a matter of how much effort one wants to put into it. With enough cutting of traces, one might consider removing the power tube circuit board, mounting sockets to the chassis and hard wiring the output stage.

Instead of trace cutting, couldn't we just lift one end of each screen resistor and insert the wiring there?
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

      That easy?
      Thank you.

I don't have one to look at, but it COULD be that easy. You'll have to look at the board for any extra little circuit branches I am not remembering.
