I have a Fender Hot rod deluxe. For my taste not enough headroom and an overly sensitive volume control at low settings. I have changed all 12AX7 tubes to 12AT7 and am pleased with the clean tube tone. Would a 12AU7 in first position be less noisy? (Its a pet peeve)
I am considering a much beefier transformer...... will that affect headroom favorably as well? I play a wide variety of music and venues, so I need sparkly tone . The overdrive etc I can get from pedals, or from a two amp set up. Next on my agenda is a more efficient 12 inch speaker.
