  • Line 100v amp conversion ?

    Hi all

Ive been left with a Monacor line 100v amp as the customer don't want it repaired.

My question is possible to convert it so i can run as an normal power amp. Has anyone tried it ?

Ive got a use for it in the band.

    What is the model number?
Isn't there a connector on the back panel marked Common, 4 ohm & 8 ohm?

      Hi

Its a monacor pa5480. Ive read up on the spec and there is nothing about it being used on 4 or 8 ohm speaker. The customer only uses line 100V.. Ive had a look on the back ( After posting the thread ) and there is a 8 ohm and a common
terminal.. Got to fix it first but i would like to use it as a pa amp or just sell it

        1) there is a way around this but I need more data
        2) *which* one of the PA5480 series do you have?
Same basic schematic applies to the 120/240/360/480W ones but OT and impedances vary
        3) even if unmarked in ohms, those "volts" outputs can be converted to suitable impedances, but need more data.
As an example: 25V RMS means 78W into 8 ohms, 35V means 135W , etc. but need to know rated power to check proper voltage and current limits for your amp.
        4) you show only part of the power amp.
Please post the full Service Manual (seems to be 5 pages) , these amps are very unusual for us but sometimes we might have to repair one or similar, it sure will help.

The 100V line utilizes a transformer to make the output high impedance.
When inside the amp , trace back the 8 ohm tap.
It probably bypasses the hi imp output transformer (100V line) and goes to the output section.
There is nothing special about the amp itself.
