  • Marshall Caps

    Hello,

I got a list of circuit board mods for a JCM900 dual reverb.

ive started messing with this amp now that i have a 6505 (and im waiting on a Soldano Avenger).

I can spot all the resistors i need to change. But, where i would expect to see 1 or 2 capacitors, there are green 'resistors'.

I want to make sure these are capacitors and nothing else. And if they are, what a suitable replacement would be. The rest of the caps on the boards are fairly obviously caps. ive just not come across ones that look like green coloured resistors.

on the JCM900 4100 schematic the cap in question is C8.

there is a gain mod which is done by swapping C8, and changing a resistor that runs in parallel with it.

C12 is also the same type of 'resistor/capacitor'.

any help would be much appreciated

They are small ceramic caps. Read the color code the same as resistors except in picofarads instead of ohms. You can install other shapes in there is you want, like discs or silver micas.

When they build the amps, those caps are the same dimensions as resistors. so the same pick and place machine can install both parts from the same machine when stuffing the board prior to soldering.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

      Nice One!
That make sense. I never gave thought to an automated line.
I'll press on! cheers for the help.
