  • Champ w/6L6...

Here's the deal: I have a 70's Champ with a 6L6, stock trannies (I know, I know) and a solid state rectifier. I'm getting arcing from the plate to the heater and the plate to the screen every now and then. This is only at full volume and really digging in. No problem with a 6V6. Could this be because the stock OT is just not right for the 6L6 and the load is reflecting back? I'm running an 8 ohm speaker. Again, I know, but it's only for testing. There is slightly less arcing with 4 ohms. Any thoughts?

And when you tried a different 6L6?

      Same thing.

I'm gonna try it tonight at the gig with a 4 ohm load and see what happens.

Well. I'm gonna assume it's reflected power through the tranny. I was ready for it to catch fire tonight at the show but it hung in there all night. I'll wait and see. By the way, a Les Paul Special through a Champ sounds pretty cool....duh.
