  • Speakers for a Modded AB165

Just finished mods to my SF AB165-864 PI,feedback and bias, tonestack changes, new filter caps and tubes.I love the sound but I need to find the right speakers.I have a 2X12 cab with old celetions but they need repair(the cab is like a super reverb cabinet with no chassis and a closed back). So I wired my 2,1X12 cabs that are loaded with JBL E120's together for 4 ohms. This setup is loud with solid bass but the top end can be brutal,I really have to roll back the tone on my Tele.I find speakers with metal dust caps too be overly bright.Has anyone tried Webers Beam Blockers? I have a 2X10 cab I may load with reissue Jensen C10's,they should give me some speaker breakup and I,m not worried about power rating because I am not going to crank this amp way up,I just want a warm tone.Buy the way I read that JJ 6V6,s can be used in place of 6L6,s in some amps.I measured the output tube plates at 460v,would they work in this amp?

I just received a pair of the WarehouseGuitarSpeakers 10-inch speakers (nice looking speakers by the way)...to be used in a 5F4 "Super" clone...about 40 watts.

David at Warehouse says it shouldn't be a problem.

Cheap too, less than $80 for the pair shipped.

Thanks T.D-I did a bit more experimenting today, and with a bit of tweaking the JBL's sound pretty good.At first I thought the amp sounded like crap,it's been a while since I used the cabinet with the Celetions.I tested them with another amp and realised they were gonzo. Now I can truly hear the amp and finish tweaking the seperate channels. The Tele requires some finesse but eventually I got a great sound,My Yamaha AES1500 just flat out rocks.I am going to eventually try the Jensen 10's .This may be a silly question but will the JBL's sound much different in a 2X12 cab vs 2 1X12 cabs?

I'd like to hear your report on those speakers.
