  • Bass in guitar amp? whats wrong with it?

i know that you can run a guitar through a bass amp and i know that you cant run a bass through a guitar amp, but why exactly?

does the amplifier itself get damaged, or is it the speaker that would blow?

The speakers aren't meant to handle it. At low volumes, they can do ok, but bass frequencies push the speakers beyond their physical limits at higher volumes, and will blow them.

You can run a bass into a guitar head but it needs to be pushing bass speakers. Steve Harris and Lemmy used to run their basses into Marshall heads that were for guitar but they had 12" bass speakers in the 4X12 cabinets.

I used to play bass and did the same thing and you can get pretty good sounds and a different range compared to using a bass head.

Carvin has some real good 12" bass speakers that can take a pounding.
