The definitive solution to Triode / Pentode mod on a Valve Junior ?

First of let me say Hi ( new and all that ).


I have one modification left I need to carry out on my Valve Junior. The Triode / Pentode switch.

I have searched the net for info on this and there seems to be conflict on weather a screen resistor should be used between Pin9 and Pin7 on the EL84. I have seen mods with no resistor, a 100ohm, 280ohm, 1k and even a 2.2k. Looking at other forums it appears I am not alone in my quest and others are also searching for the same answers.

Can anyone here shine some light on this ?

Without delving into theory the tube manufacturers - or at least Mullard and MO - recommend the 100 ohm resistor. It's cheap, easy to put in, so why not?
