Thinking about buying one, heard the gain channel needs help and might not buy one depending on what mods are known for it.

Where does it say that? Sure, some of you repair musical equipment for a living, some of us don't. How are mods a imagined advantaged? Everyone likes exactly the same things as you? Do you have a list of factory perfectly good amps? I take it what you build is not based on any other designs so there is no need to "mod". Geeze, if you can't help the guy....

I once had one of these.
It has a good clean channel, similar to a Super Reverb. Good reverb as well.
Forget the gain channel and use a good overdrive pedal instead.

Still have a Rivera era Super Champ and love it.
Never use the "Lead" mode, though.

These amps and earlier Fender "pull-gain" or gain boost amps prove that tube preamp distortion can sound much worse than a good SS pedal.
An amp with a separate gain channel has much better options to design a "good" gain sound.

Aw jeez! I've been helping people modify amps here almost as much as helping with repairs. I thought we were cool Juan? Now I feel like you've looking down your nose at me the whole time!

What would the "Mods & Tweaks" forum section here be for if not for mods and tweaks?

Ok. On the mod request. I don't know of any popular mods for the gain channel on the Rivera Concert. I looked at the schematic and as far as I'm concerned trying to stay within the assigned switching matrix won't allow for effective changes. And simple tweaks to component values within the circuit as it is probably won't produce significantly better results. I'm sure this is why most players, owners and even techs dealing with this model just choose to use the clean channel. But surely it CAN be done. If one were willing to defunct the existing switching matrix and add their own all the basic parts are there to set up something more like an old Boogie type preamp. I like doing mods and I wouldn't trouble with that though. It would be very ambitious.

I briefly owned a Rivera clubster 45, chubster 55, and a hundred duo 12 and I liked all the gain channels on those. Not knowing the history on Rivera , does it seem that the gain channel he did while at Fender was lacking in comparison to what he did at Rivera? What did he do different?
