  • amazing Mesa train wreck !

Brad the amp tech in Australia is doing an incredibly ambitious rebuild of a totally trashed Mesa!

    Braver then I!

Wow! Someone really bastardized that amp,...... as if a Mesa amp needed more of a mess inside than already comes from the factory.

That guy has a lot of patience. Fixing this amp is probably just as time consuming as a new build.

            Thanks.
I was hoping for a follow up.
            Part 1 was a nightmare.

Brad flatly states the Mesa repair charge is usually 2-3 times that of a more serviceable/logically designed amp brand.
Their owners tend to love them and are used to overpaying luckily

Some techs/shops love them for precisely the same reason.
For myself, I'd rather fix 2 or 3 other amps that were designed at least with an inkling they might have to be serviced some day.

Look at what he has to do, and the time involved to replace a few components on this MkIV
Good Lord...... it only takes 40 seconds for the fun to start.

I agree 100%, but if I do have to open up a Mesa, I'm not afraid to charge well for it. Thankfully for techs, they're expensive amps, so you can get by with higher labor rates.
