I'm working on a build using some stuff I had sitting around gathering dust.
here is what I got so far. all voltages measured unloaded
PT (sec1) 380-0-380 (sec2) 14.5v (sec3) 7.2v
running into a 5u4gb I get 397vdc
does this sound right?
I have a choke from a dual showman Rated 4 henries at 90 ma DC
good caps that I have on hand are 2x 220mfd@285vdc 3x20mfd@500vdc 2x70mfd@100vdc
OT from a bassman ten 70w 2 x 6l6 ul. I dont think I'll run ul though
I want to build a simple 1 channel amp w/ a simple tone ctrl circuit maybe just a single knob. looking for cleaner sound as I've got plenty of dirty amps.
any thoughts,ideas or comments would be welcome.

A push pull parallel 12L6? Tubes are cheap, each can dissipate a little less than a 6v6 (10w). Four or eight of them oughta get some sound out. One cathode resistor per 2, share the resistors "across" the primary of a toroidal PT of the correct ratio for your speakers. That 14.6v winding is probably 12v loaded, but if not, there are tons of cheap 12v regulators to run the outputs on DC. You can run 12ax7 et. al. on 12 or 6 volts, so I guess you'd be runnin' em on 12. Dunno about the 3v winding, maybe for the panel lights? You could back bias the transformer if the B+ is too high.

what about a 5E5 with a pair of 6BG6G's?

you can loose one of the 12xx7 preamps and still have dual (brite/normal) inputs

i'm reworking the circuit right now for a similiar project, but thinking of adding a bf type tone stack.

lol the way I see a 5E5 when i look at the schematic it seems to be a 5E3 with 6l6's

its my understang too that the 6BG6B's are identical to the 6L6GB with a different pin out and a cool plate cap that would attach directly to the blue and brown wires on the output tranny.

they are a fraction of the cost, unless you got a few 6L6's lying around

my pardons stingray I just seen the odd tube # & didn't eve look at the 5e5 schematic. I do have a few 6l6's laying around but these 6bg6's look pretty interesting especially for the price. anyone used these tubes in anything?

You can run the two 6L6s with their filaments in series for 12vac.

I figured this out after seeing how it was wired in the old chassis I stole it from.
I have no bias tap so I guess I'll go cathode bias with this project. shouldn't my rectified voltage be higher?
