  • Anyone tried a 5F4 preamp with a long-tailed PI?

Just curious how it sounds. Any surprises?

    Thanks, Skip

Would be nice to know, since I'm planing to build a two channel amp where the first channel is a 6G11 circuit. For the second channel I'm torn between the 6G3 or 5F4.
I'd tend to think the 5F4 with a long tail PI would sound similar to a 5F6-A Bassman.
I also think that the amp would lose some of it's earlier breakup because of the missing half 12AX7 before the PI (original circuit).

      Stumbled over this thread again.
I did build this amp (actually a copy of a brown vibrolux with reverb like tubenit introduced) where the second channel is a 5F4 preamp. This is my main amp since I've heard this second channel for the first time.

      Two C10Q Jensens
      Chimey high end
      Great low end
      Perfect breakup

      All in all TONE HEAVEN
