  • Will this relay work?

I think this relay is what I need for channel switching in my amp. It is non-latching and runs off 12vdc. I will be using a dedicated 12v transformer and power supply for this. I just want someone good w/ relays to confirm these will work. thanks in advance! Oh and I'm not using PCB in my amp... how shall I go about mounting these things? Was thinking some GPO3 board with silicone and mounting them dead-bug style.

part can be found if search mouser for:
    Mfr part #
    V23079A1003B301

Looks like it'll work. Most of the channel switching amps I've looked at use Omron relays. I doubt there's anything special about them, but alot of guys on the SLOClone forum use the Omron G5Vs. I'm using some G5SB-14s in my amp build, but that was because of form factor and they're likely the wrong type of realy (they're power relays). As for mounting, I think the dead bug method would work, or if the lead spacing is enough, you could mount it on turrets or maybe even eyelets. Use the hole diameter of the turret to spread them apart if necessary.

Those relays are ment to plug into IC sockets. Easiest thing to do is use some kind of IC prototyping board. Radio Shack sells some that splay the connections out so you can attach wires and mount the board on standoffs. I'd solder the relays in though. They weight too much and might work their way out of any socket.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
REMEMBER: Everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school !

If you do decide to deadbug, just solder the flyback diode right to the coil pins.
Otherwise, get it as close as you can.
