  • Tilt Control - Use with Tubes

Has anyone tried the "tilt" control with a tube circuit as a simple one-knob tone stack? Any ideas what circuit values the tone stack would need to work with a 12AX7 gain stage?

Here is the article where I learned about the Tilt control.

I describe the tilt control in my book, and it was also employed in the Quad 34 preamp. It's really just the Big Muff PI control with two extra resistors (which isn't really a useful improvement for guitar purposes).

So the Big Muff tone stack on the Tone Stack Calculator will work like the Tilt control? I'll give this a go and see how it sounds. I have room enough in my amp to have three knobs and I'm thinking of trying a high gain channel with GAIN - TONE - MASTER

      Any ideas?

FWIW- variations of the so-called Tilt Control are often labeled as "Contour" controls on some guitar and bass amps, and are not exactly a new concept. I've even seen designs that are switchable, to bypass the control entirely. In my opinion, it's a very useful filter in some applications.
