    Cap-Driven Reverb?

    I have been looking into this topic for a few weeks now and have yet to start a test-bed amp. But I know it can be done, having gotten help on the Hoffman forums and I read a thing or two here as well. Traynors and Ampegs have pulled it off, I know that much. My question is:

    Has anybody successfully made a capacitor-driven single tube reverb that sounded really good?

    I presently have a 8FB accutronics tank and a 12DW7 tube. The trouble is, I can't quite figure out what other components I'll need and being a newb I'd rather build from a working schematic!

    Maestro (Gibson) made a couple of stand alone units in the late 50s and early 60s that connected to a combo's speaker with aligator clips. It's basically an extension amp with a reverb pan and a speaker. They are kind of rare and prized by collectors and period specific purists. You see them on eBay occassionally. You might want to search for a Maestro schematic. I also seem to remember someone on this forum trying to repair one a while back.

      Go over to Schematic Heaven, and look through the Ampeg schematics. AMpeg made any number of models driving the reverb pan through a cap off the plate of the driver tube.
      Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

        Will definitely look into it some more. Thanks to both of you! This looks like a great new forum here BTW. I'm gonna hang out & glean all I can...

        Oh and for posterity's sake, I'm blatantly trying to copy the Swart Atomic Space Tone without having an amp to clone or a schematic of any kind. From pestering a lot of good folks online, the consensus is that it uses a 12DW7 for reverb drive & recovery and there are no trannies other than the PT and OT. Hence, a cap-driven reverb with a *FB**** style tank seems likely.

          Swart says they use a 12DW7 AND a 12ax7 in their reverb circuit... so 3 12AX7 sections + 1 12AU7 section
