I can get 5W resistors in wirewound or metal oxide. Any particular difference between the two? I am using them for B+ rail and/or cathode resistors for the power stage.

Both are flameproof. Wirewound resistors DO exhibit some inductance by the sheer fact that they a coil of wire wound on a ceramic form, not necessarily a bad thing. I limit their use to power supplies, screen grid resistors and cathode-bias resistors. There is no other place they would really be needed.
