  • 7189A guitar amp B+?

    hey all.

just tore down an old cheap GE record player (1963) which had 2 nice GE 7189 tubes in it. On closer inspection the etch is for 7189 A which seems to mean they has a different pinout (9LE vs 9CV for std 7189/EL84) and this version was designed to handle B+ ~440v. Since us guitar guys regularly run EL84's at 400VDC when the spec is 300VDC, for an increase of a factor of x1.33, should I plan to run these 7189A's at ~585VDC?

probably not but what B+ would you recommend?

I'd be running them the same as an EL84, i.e.; around 350

7189A's in HiFi application uses 390V. I used the 7189 (not A) in a current guitar amp build, and am running 372V with no problems.
