haven't had you guys do this for a while, so i figured you'd be chomping at the bit to make fun of me again. Anyways, after someone told me that with a 820R on the first stage cathode without bypassing it, it was a recipe for blocking. That got me to thinking that even tho i don't hear any blocking, maybe i should bypass it for the sake of being correct and eliminating any issues that it may cause that may show up as nothing more than a lesser quality of tone than i could be getting. But the problem was that i was happy with the frequency responce and gain and i knew by passing I would change that. But i figured a big enough cap would leave the frequency response alone and i then added a 22uf and did a split load plate to compensate for the extra gain of the bypass. i later felt it could be a bit less low endy and replaced the 22uf with a 10uf. This got me back into the who tweaking thing again and i tried several things, a few of which stuck including the .047uf mid cap in place of the former .022.

that said, i like the tone better than any of the 954,345,759 different configurations i've had to date. (some of you know that joke isn't too far fetched) The tone is as rich as it's ever been w/o and frequency issues to speak of, and it's meatier than ever partially due to the .047 mid cap that for some reason never worked well before. One of the biggest changes was going to a much higher supply voltage for all the AX7's. Anyways, since i've made so many changes i thought it would be interesting to get your take. I'd especially like to hear Chuck's thoughts. i know the 820 cathodes may seem unorthodox, and least it seems so with BOTH of them at 820. But it just sounds best like that. seems the higher in value i go the less rich it sounds. I go by my ears unlike most here because i'm not educated about biasing and load lines. But then again, gotta go by what the ears think in the end anyways.

    10Uf bypass cap

That 22Uf cap is what gave you the bass tone.
    The 100 gave you less.
The 0.047 helped smooth it out.
You don't have to use a bypass cap.
Theory indicates a 22Uf will pass all frequencies.
Old Marshall amps used a 0.1Uf.
    Glad you like the changes.

Actually i meant meatier as in a thicker midrange. It already has a ton of low end, in fact more than i need, which is why i decided to drop the 22uf to 10uf. I think the mid cap not only put the mid control in a range i like better, but it seems to have shifted the frequency the treble pot controls somewhat too and made it more usable.
