  • DPDT on on on

I'm looking for a rocker switch that is DPDT. Typicall a DPDT has 2 commons that connect to either the "top" lug or the "bottom" lug... I'm speaking of an on-on arrangement. I've yet to use an on-on-on arrangement. I know this means that there is a "center" position - but does it also mean that the common is connected to both the "top" and "bottom" lugs simultaneously? If so that's what I'm looking for.

also anyone know where can find one? Seem hard to find through typical vendors. Ideally it'd be snap-in, and circular in shape, but I can compromise. Found this at mouser but it's pricey and looks cheap. http://mouser.com/Electromechanical/...+on+on&FS=True

The kind of switch typically meant by on-on-on is a three position DPDT where the two poles are configured like this:

      Pole1: OFF ON ON
      Pole2: OFF OFF ON

I.e. in the "down" position, both poles are off, in the center one is on and the other off, in the "up" position both are on.

This can be configured to work like a single pole triple throw switch somehow (I can't quite recall how, but I think it would be shown in the data sheet).

The other thing on-on-on can mean is one end is on one way, the other end is on the other way, and in the center both ends are on. An example of that is a pickup switch on a guitar - one way for neck, other way for bridge, and middle for both.

        What is it for lowell?

The progreesive on switch is sometimes used for a single switch serving both power and standby. is that it?

Dave West sells those for $12.

I looked at that Mouser link, and the data sheet shows the switch as a On-off-On DPDT. On-On-On is made by using an external connection.

I've used those for reversing the line of a power transformer. Just form an "X" with the contacts and put the line on the poles.

The On-On-On configuration is usually only available in Toggle switches. There is a "Rocker" type available, it's really a toggle switch with a rocker type actuator. Mouser P/N 611-7211J26ZQE22 . Look at the page from the data sheet below, type 7203 is the conventional On-Off-On type and the 7211 is an On-On-On. Note on the right side it shows how the terminals are connected in the three actuator positions.

You can't make an On-On-On from a On-Off-On with external connections.

Ok yeah LT that's the one I was referring to as well. I guess I'll try it and see if I dig it.

Enzo it's for power tube selection. I want "up" to be one pair, "down" to be the other, and "center" to be all tubes. See schem below.

So consider a pickup selector switch then.

I need a rocker, and if not possible then a rotary is best. I've use toggles on the back panel of my amp and they've broken. The rockers and rotaries are more durable when it comes to side impact/bending etc...

Then go to the switchmakers web sites and start looking for on-on-on configurations. if you find something suited, then you at least have a part number. CArling for starts.

I'm just stating what is in the data sheet. Look at it. It shows using external connections for their On-On-On version.

                        SP 3T switch

That datasheet is for a Sp 3T switch.
When pin 2 is common, you can select 3 different output pins.
                        Pretty cool.
I think what is wanted is a true On-On-On. SPDT.
