  • Schematics For Power Amp - Feedback Wanted

Here are the schematics for the power amp I've been working on based on a SLO circuit. Since this is my first go at actually designing/modifying something (as opposed to just building a known-working design) I'd love any feedback anyone could provide:

I'm particularly interested in how people think the DC cathode follower stage will work on the input. I used it because they seem to be everywhere in Soldano designs, so I figured if Mike had an extra tube that's what he'd do with it. But I'm not sure what the practical impact will be other than a bit of compression.

It's not listed on the schematics, but the transformers are 360-0-360 for power and 2.2K primary with a center tap for the OT.

      Thanks for the reply.

I could probably use some help with terminology here. The stage you circled plus the next one is copied from the loop return of the SLO schematic. I believe, unless I read it wrong, that the clean channel passes through those stages (and another similar pair on the loop send before it). So I'm confused as to how it can be a cold clipping stage since presumably it doesn't clip when the amp is set to the clean channel.

That said, I'll be the first to say I don't really understand how to analyze DC cathode follower stages. So I could easily be totally confused.

Here's the closest thing I've seen to a discussion of what I thought those first two stages would do:

One other question: to keep DC off the volume pot, do I just need to move C10 before the pot, or do I need 2 caps? If I need two, what role does the second one play?
