  • Is this wierd?

I put 5k pots in series with 820R resistors on V1a and V1b and after a million turns trying to get the best tonal balance i measured them and found V1A at 6k. (B was 1.5k) The reason i ask is i have seen cold biased stages in many amps, but never on the first stage. No matter how i set them i always kept coming back to this setting. And this was not only listening to the amp itself, but playing along with a CD to make sure it fits in the mix. Is this abnormal, and if so i wonder why it sounds best like this.

I'm curious to get a little more info...

What is your B+ and your plate resistor for V1A on your test amp?
Are you running clean, dirty, or saturated?
    Humbuckers or single coils?

i think the voltage there was around 225-250 thereabouts with a 100k. Both hums and single, and i always run a bit dirty but not so much that i can't get fairly clean at 5 on the guitar volume.
