  • EL84 OT/impedance

I just picked up an 18 watt clone of sorts, and Im needing to replace to output transformer. I've currently got a Weber Deluxe Reverb OT installed, and while it sounds good (this is my favorite circuit, and in my opinion hard to sound bad) I'm wondering if it couldn't sound just a little bit better.I'm eyeballing a few different ones from Heyboer, Magnetic Components, MM, etc...

My question is, is the Weber OT with a 6.6k input impedance too low for el84 p-p?

Short answer? No. Similar values are used in a variety of commercial amps.

for 2xEL84 ~16w PP, ~6k is common, as is 8k, and I think the lower imp. can be expected to push the tubes harder (HiFi use is usually -> 8k)

Sounds good. I'm interested in trying a deluxe style OT, maybe for a different flavor than an 18 watt style OT.
