It's a great book. Nearly everything you need, nothing you don't. Well-written. Modern (and some ancient)textbook writers could learn from his style: he presents a topic, works out some examples, and lets you loose to try your own hand.
There are also some good things not in the book but on his web site, like tremelo oscillators and the load line plotter.
I expect those will probably end up in a second book.
I received my copy of Merlin's book in time to bring in on my current tour. I am finding it to be very well written and as far as I can tell a very scientific, in depth, and comprehensive treatise on the subject.
Exactly what I was looking for. It is going to take me some time, some rereading, and some time spent working the formulae over with pencil and paper to absorb it all.
Left Merlin's book on the plane this morning! (overseas/overnight flight, so I was a bit groggy) Called airline lost & found, but won't know if they have it for a couple of days. I'll need to buy it again if they don't. Although I had read through most of it already, I of course wasn't able to learn it with one reading.
I've been buying and reading everything I can get my hands on. I'm quite fond of the 2 Herbert J Reich books "Theory & Applications of Electron Tubes" and "Principles of Electron Tubes" (both old college texts I bought from amazon). Megantz's "Design and Construction of Tube Guitar Amplifiers" is a worth while read in my novice opinion. I have the first 4 books from O'Connor and will most likely buy the rest some day. I printed a couple titles from the pmillett site as well.
Merlin's book has been on my 'to buy' list for a little while... maybe I'll order it this week
Pete Millett's site is the Mother Lode if you're looking for technical books on how to design tube gear.

"I happen to have an original 1955 Stratocaster! The neck and body have been replaced with top quality Warmoth parts, I upgraded the hardware and put in custom, hand wound pickups. It's fabulous. There's nothing like that vintage tone or owning an original." - Chuck H
