  • Really quick OT primary question.. just double checking my work

    Hi guys,
I searched the forum and read all over the interwebz about finding the primary impedance of an output transformer, and performed the test today. Everything seems right, I was just hoping that a few of you wouldn't mind double checking my work ;-) any feedback is appreciated.
I took an OT I had laying around (from a 4xEL84 PP amp) and did the test with 1VAC across the secondary and a DMM across the primary. When on the 4 ohm tap, I got 35.3VAC on the primary. So, when I square that I get about 1,246. That times 4 ohms= 4,984 ohms.
When I did the same thing on the 8 ohm tap, I got about 25.2VAC on the primary. Square that comes to about 635. That times 8= 5,080.
Does everything here look about right for this transformer?
If I were to order a replacement for it, would I ask the manufacturer for a 5K primary? Thank you in advance, sorry for yet another OT primary question!

Wow, that is really close numbers with respect from 4 to 8 ohms... yes you have a 5K OT with 4 and 8 ohm speakers.
