  • Adjustable Wirewound resistors

I've seen a few pieces of gear, namely the Airbrake lite and a Filmosound amp that have these in them. It is your typical tubular enamel coated wirewound resistor with solder lugs, not leads on it. These ones in particular have some of the coating removed and a bracket attached to the internal "wirewound" conductor. This bracket can be moved to adjust the value of the wirewound. Is this something that is done by the gear maker or the resistor manufacturer?

heres the type of resistor I'm speaking of, without the enamel removed.

I have two that were purchased a long time ago from a surplus store. Looks to me like the bracket is done my the resistor manufacturer. The ones I have are 10 ohms full length, (about 6 inches, I set the slider at 8 ohms for a test load)

The adjustable ones are just made that way. You can buy extra sliders to make multiple taps.

WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
