  • proximity issue? O.T. and Power Tube?

I just drilled and punched out a chassis for a DIY single ended project inspired by the AX84 P1X design found at ax84.com.

I got distracted while laying stuff out and while trying to keep the P.T. and O.T. adequately distanced I ended up with the O.T. placed pretty darn close to the output tube.

I am trying to determine if I should suck it up and leave it be... or if there is a compelling reason such as heat or electronic proximity that I should be concerned with.

The glass of the power tube, a EL34, will be approx 1-1/4" from the wrap on the winding of the O.T.

I can move either component easily... but I am disappointed to think that I may have already botched the clean look of the chassis. :-)

    What do you think?

    best regards,
    mike

Sounds like plenty of room to me. A lot of stuff there isn't a finger's width between tube and tranny. I'm not aware of any proximity problems in practice. Someone might have a theory, but I haven't heard that either. Pretty sure we don't want the tube rattling against the thing, but that's about it.

I am just an amateur at this stuff, but I have seem some production model amps that have the OT right next to the power tubes.

I built a matchless spitfire and had to invent my own layout due to space constraints. The OT is really close to the power tubes, preamp tubes, and filter choke. The amp is pretty quiet. 7_better_letters | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I'd like to see what other replies you get.
