  • New transformer for a THOR amp!

    Hey all!

I got this THOR amp in for repair which has a blown transformer........ the transformer blows fuses (5A) when I try to turn it on. I removed all load lines so the transformer must be blown.

Now I need a new transformer; shame there are no markings on the unit only that it has 390 - 0 lines, 6.3 - 0 lines and a 100V line. One shared ground for both the heater as the bias tap. I measure a short circuit in the heater taps

When I look around a lot of transformers are added; what kind of transformer would be suited? It is a 4x EL34 amp that is close to a Marshall 100W. What about the current rating of the transformer?

    Thanks!

I would go with the Marshall.

Hammond makes the 290HX JCM100 replacement

      Secondaries:
      356V CT @ 420mA
      6.3V @ 7A
      100V @ ? can't remember, hardly matters. It's a bias tap.

Primaries: A bunch like any Marshall PT.

Angela Instruments sells them about as cheap as anyone:
