Designing a preamp using octals.

reverb delete

Ok im going to use this schematic and subsitute the 12ax7's for 6sl7's and 6sf5's. Can anyone delete the reverb part of the circuit. since im rebuilding 2 amps its not feesable to have reverb in each. Im not sure if removing the reverb free's up a gain stage in the preamp.

Basically just drop V2 and the ancillary reverb bits, but you are definitely in trial and error mode, but that is good for learning. As a self taught amp maker myself I have tried many different circuits the past few years to see what I like and some patchworking like your doing...some good-OK, and some duds. So you'll just need to try it. Or easier is to use a known and perfected preamp circuit using octals. If I had the Bogen your redoing I'd try some of the paraphasePI types of Gibson tweeds. Or maybe the super Gibson Ga40 tremolo circuit-subbing in a octal pentode in place of the 5879. Also you mentioned just dropping in a premade board as easier-maybe, maybe not. You still allways have to get it all working and sometimes that occurs right out the gate, or not, as your probably finding...at least that's my exp ;]

I considered that because of lack of components at my local electronics store. this time around im going to order my parts as well as shop them locally. Im still not dead set on a schematic yet so your suggestions are apreciated. I may be a beginner but im not a quiter and im willing to go through trial and error. but like i said lack of quality/correct components slows that whole process down.

I've been reading up on tube amp building and i feel abit better now about doing some trial and error. Im thinking of starting with a Gibson GA 30 circuit off the gibson website and dropping one channel and changing the preamp to octals. Ive read that early gibsons were designed to be clean. thats what im looking for out of this amp. ill save the distortion for another project.
