  • Filters, 3-way filter, splitting the signal ?

Thinking of passive filtering, RC filtering in other words, a standard high pass filter (1st order) is:
    Code:

    in----C----+-------out
               |
               R
               |
              GND
    -3db attenuation is at 1/(2*pi*R*C)
a high pass filter the same, but with C and R switching places.
    a bandpass filter is then
    Code:
    in----C----+-------R-------+----------out
               | |
               R C
               +-------+-------+
                       |
                      GND
all wikipedia says is that the frequencies are attenuated, I've read on the internet somewhere that
"in RC filters, frequencies are shunted to ground"
so. if this is true, then maybe this is possible:
    Code:
                  Low freqs out
                      |
                      R
    in---------C------+------R------+------ mid freqs out
                                    C
                                    |
                             High freqs out
The good thing, if this is possible, is that you can build a 3-way crossover/filter with very few components.

I would use this for 3-amping, or "3-amped" distortion in a guitar amp.

Is this possible? or is it just me having "the bachelors dream" ?

    Well, that didn't work. { my keyboard drawing }

You have to add a cap between the first two r's in your drawing..

You run into many of the same problems you'd find with speaker crossovers. You will typically need sharper filters that are carefully set to not overlap and not leave holes. Try looking into the bi- and tri-amping filters at Elliot Sound Products' site.

Or play with the single slope filters. You may like it. Just don't spend a lot of time beating on it (or yourself!) if you don't like how it comes out.
Amazing!! Who would ever have guessed that someone who villified the evil rich people would begin happily accepting their millions in speaking fees!

Oh, wait! That sounds familiar, somehow.
