I was a member of Ampage but could never find my login. Since I had countless email addresses since, I created another login a few years back. Having said that, I've been around to see a lot about human nature in electronics forums. I've been treated more than bluntly, more than once. I just shrug it off, cuz the other guy is probably just having a bad day.

Having said that, it's good when senior members step in and talk openly like Robert Martinelli did here. There is one or another senior member here I wish to see land from the ego flight they're permanently on.

      Sigh...

Gary, go eat a big bowl of ice cream and then try again.

      Back on topic...

I have trouble wrapping my mind around a redplating 12XX in a PI circuit also only because I don't get how the load can ever tax the tube into watts when coupled through a 100k resistor and a capacitor. But I'm here to learn and share (I had my ice cream) so I'm listening.

It won't red plate; I never said it would:

But be warned; if the LTP is very warm biased and overdriven, the output signals will undergo a big shift in duty cycle that can cause one power valve (the one driven by the non-inverting output) to redplate! This is something I need to add to the second edition.

Was he not talking about one of the power tubes redplating rather than the PI tube itself, or have I missed something?

Oops! Posted this before I saw Merlin's response

Just reading too fast and bouncing from Gary's post. He does need to eat more ice cream before he posts though.

If you can't cope with this simple wish of mine, then maybe Steve can do something about it.

Isn't there enough hatred around already? Let's try to keep this "place" as peaceful and nice as possible.
Excellent sentiments, and something that would be a real improvement in Gary's posts. However, the folk wisdom I learned as a child was this: never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time, and annoys the pig.
Amazing!! Who would ever have guessed that someone who villified the evil rich people would begin happily accepting their millions in speaking fees!

Oh, wait! That sounds familiar, somehow.
