I am interesting in building an IsoCab, something similar to:

Does anybody have any plans/photos/material-list/etc of one they have made where they experienced good results?

Due to my experiences with this one...

    http://www.demeteramps.com/products/cabinets/ssc1.html

... if you need near-silence externally (I didn't think I would at first - I was wrong ), I would suggest internal cross-bracing and 3/4" or 1" particle board construction, along with this stuff for internal insulation...

... but I had no budget or weight restraints and high noise-reduction requirements, so YMMV. At least I didn't end up having to get the lead aprons from the dental-supply place.

Just FWIW - IMO the Sennheiser e604 makes a killer iso-cab mic; I much prefer it to the SM57 I used initially.

      Thanks for the info.

I chose pine because I want it light. They might be carried to gigs.
IsoCabs can be used on stage. Rush uses them.

Is the internal cross bracing diagonal or at right angles?

I will use the foam you mentioned. The foam will absorb rather than reflect and will make the box seem bigger. Plus it will insulate too.

If it is still too loud at home, I plan to wrap the box in a moving pad or sleeping bag. It won't need to be wrapped at a gig.

      I am gluing 9 1/2" pine together. My cabinet will be 19" x 20" x 36"

To prevent the possibility of standing waves inside the box, Kevin O'Connor's speaker cab book says not to have any dimensions that are the same. The IsoCabs I have seen advertised all seem to have equal dimensions for the sides. Do you think this is a problem?

I was thinking about filling the speaker section with foam peanuts that are used for packing items into boxes for shipping.

What do you think about doing that?
