WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.

When in Gary's position in the discussion, what sort of personality disorder suddenly prompts someone to come off with:
I'm getting a new car, and your presumably not, neener, neener, neener.
I'm still confused."Take two placebos, works twice as well." Enzo

I believe that to get the best performance from power scaling you still want to use a master volume, as it helps to be able to attenuate the signal fed to the power tubes when you've reduced the voltage. So, if you have to do just one I'd just go with the MV, if you can do both go for it.

A new car or a new bike, neeners are understandable. I'd sooner have a new guitar... Or peace on Earth... Prioritized in that order, of course."Take two placebos, works twice as well." Enzo

But what I don't understand is, why don't I want the power tubes to clip if I'm going to VVR the power section? That seems to be the point of the whole thing. I guess it probably sounds like ass that way, eh?

In general you do want the power tubes to clip/overdrive, but the drive to them may need to be limited to keep the ratio between the overdrive in the various stages. If one stage is overdriven massively, blocking distortion can become significant and yes, that does sound like ass.My band:- http://www.youtube.com/user/RedwingBand

Just so You know what your missing.
I will not have another big Amp without it.

So called LarMar MV is a so called Ken Fisher MV (do a search for the Trainwreck Pages, see the type 2 MV) with bypass resistors added to maintain bias voltage to power tube grids in case the pot wiper looses continuity. I don't know how it got the name LarMar, but that concept was kicked around years before there was any LarMar.

The version everyone is calling the Lar/Mar is from the Metro Forum.

Metro, schmetro. Just another Johnny-come-lately amp forum?
LarMar just sounds odd, why not give credit to one of the masters? Who the hell is LarMar anyway? And why should we care?
Sorry, just being a curmudgeon. It happens when you get old.
