LED Pilot Light.

I bought the regular Fender jewel type light deal, but I don't have room for the whole assembly. But I can fit the jewel nut in there and make it work with an LED no problemo.

What kind of current and voltage can these things handle? I don't know what kind of rating to select. It would be cool to run it off' the AC mains if I could.

I did exactly that on something last week. Works like a charm! I don't think I used the bleeder.

Use a "backlight" LED or use a few from a cheap flashlight (maybe 3 in a triangle) so it will be bright enough to shine through the jewel.

That leaves the LED circuits directly coupled to the mains.

Add a diode in series to block reverse, and a series resistor to set current, and run the LED off the 6VAC you already have.

Calculate the resistor for maybe 10ma through the LED.

Yep....just use the heater voltage and a diode/current limiter. I had to do this recently on a little kit hi-fi amp I reworked for harp use.

For use behind a jewel cover, i'd use either a non diffused red LED with either a clear lens or the "tinted" style with a pale coloring that you can still see thru. The jewel does the diffusing, so you want a "beamy" looking LED.

you could use a Supertex LR8 as an offline regulator! works to 450v!
