I have resurrected a homebrew I think is worthy of continuing on with. It’s based on the Ampeg Reverberocket R-212R reissue http://www.schematicheaven.com/ampeg...brocket_ri.pdf and worked into a Montgomery Ward 62-9015A chassis http://www.gbase.com/Powered/GearDet...ba&Item=867402 with original transformers and speakers. The power supply was based on the Torres book. This amp sings and responds beautifully, I truthfully don’t know why this is but I’m not complaining! With a soft touch the sound is nice and chimey. Dig in and it kicks you in the face. The sustain is excellent, crank it and the distortion is silky smooth. There are a few things I’d like to improve: 1. The amp is a bit on the bright side, I’d like to preserve what I have but add some bass, maybe with a fat and/or deep switch, not sure of the best approach. 2. The triode mode sounds terrible, dull and the amp loses it’s sustain and response. Is there a better approach to the pentode/triode setup OR is this a result of using the original 6L6 OT with EL34s? 3. The amp is a bit loud for home use. I was hoping to lower the power using the above-mentioned triode switch. Sounds terrible. How can I preserve the “pentode” sound and response but lower the output?

If you went this far, you could try 6V6 or EL84, to see what you like.
