  • Standby switch for dual rail power supply requires two switches?

Probably an elementary question but to get a standby switch on my amp do I need two standby switches, one for each rail? Is there a way I can just use one switch that just lifts the ground or something? It is negative supply this time with the center tap as the ground. I guess I just need a dual pole switch rated for 800 volts for the two 400 volts rails.

check Merlins PS book, as his WEB pages on this are down...

RG has some neat MOSFET stuff at GeoFex, search for his "MOSFET Follies" 800VDC rated switches are rare, huge and expensive!

      How about a schematic?

The resistor values here are 600 ohms but I have some 2k ones if it isn't quiet enough.

Are you making a *very* high power Transistor amp with +/-300V rails?
In that case just use a primary switch.

Wouldn't just a standard 240vac 3a, or equivalent, DPDT switch work for that? Or do you want to switch them independently?Click image for larger version

Too bad tubes aren't available in complementary types.

Hey !!! where's the originality then?

Or we might end with something similar to:

No not building a transistor amp, just want the negative rail for experimenting with some ideas I have been thinking about. I am using household light switches atm..
