I have a 2x12 cab with 8 ohm speakers wired in series to create 16 ohm input. i want to run it with my combo amp witch has 2x12 16 ohm speakers wired in series to create 8 ohm input. my amp will accept 2x16 ohm outputs or 1x8 ohm i have come up with a theory i need help with. Would splitting the cable IE putting a y joint into it work to run the 2 speakers with a 16 ohm input. i have a diagram to show what i mean. if someone has any advice i would be most grateful.

There you have 2 16 ohm speakers in *parallel* for 8 ohms total.

I suggest you study what a series and what a parallel connection are, because it looks like you are confusing them.
Good luck.Juan Manuel Fahey

As JM mentioned, the speakers in your combo must be wired in parallel, not series. That will give 8 ohms from the 2 16ohm speakers.
So, you have the amps own 8 ohm load, and a 16 ohm external cabinet.
There is no way you can set it up so all the speakers receive equal power. It may be possible to use them all, but some will be louder than others.
It would be helpful if you state what the brand and model of the amp is, and whether it is tube or solid state.Originally posted by EnzoI have a sign in my shop that says, "Never think up reasons not to check something."
