  • Ditching the reverb

The specific design I'm building (very slowly) is the London Power Standard amp from TUT5, but these questions would apply to a lot of amps with reverb. Namely an AB763 Twin Reverb ( http://www.schematicheaven.com/fende...b763_schem.pdf ), whose reverb topography is very similar. Basically, I want to dump the reverb from the design.

It appears by the normal channel that the fender way to ditch the reverb is to also ditch the "mixing" stage. But don't people say that the vibrato channel is the magic channel and that extra stage is the reason (am I making that up?) If I were to leave that stage in the design would I also leave the 10pf cap and 3.3M resistor?

What's with that cap and resistor anyway? don't they knock the clean signal way way down? is this to bring it in line with the wet signal and the mixing stage brings it all back up?

When you first build it up, leave the 3M3 and 10pF in the circuit, but add a switch (firmly mounted to something - maybe use the GND switch or a brite switch position) to jumper across them.

See which you like better. I suspect you'll prefer them out of the way.

    Hope this helps!

I guess the first issue is weather it's worth adding another tube to the amp for that one extra stage. Then I'd have to find somthing to do with the other half.
Is it true that folks like the reverb channel better on blackface era amps and the extra stage is the reason for it? or did I just make that up?
