  • Help understanding Carvin V3M power reduction scheme

I used to amps removing tubes or switching triode mode for power reduction. Not great at reading schematics but it appears the V3M reduces voltage to the power section? It has 50,22 and 7 watt modes. Looks like the switch switches in resistors Im assuming to cut voltage ? TIA Bob

Heres a link to the schematic.

Looks to me like the B+ voltage to the phase inverter gets cut with series resistors.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.

So the resistors on the PI change the voltage on the PI plates & that affects the signal going to the output tubes.
Kind of like a PI master volume, no?

So it lowers the output to the power tubes by lowering voltage to the PI ? Not fond of the sound this design produces in the low wattage settings. Think cutting two tubes would be better perhaps. Thanks Bob
