I need to go look up the formal logic terms again. There is a specific name for the logical fallacy you're promoting.

cum hoc ergo propter hoc

Translated directly - "with this, therefore because of this"

Plain language - Correlation does not imply causation

Just because two things exist at the same time and in the same place, it cannot be assumed that that one exists because of the other. Otherwise, we could blame the hole in the ozone layer on rap music (weren't they both discovered in the early 1970's?)
