Speaker attenuator load question.

What is the correct way to set up a a speaker attenuator with a mismatched load. I user a 16 ohm speaker on an 18 watt Marshall 8 ohm tap. My Weber Mini Mass has 4-8-and 16 ohm settings. What is the best compromise?

I would think setting it at 8 ohms would be the way to go.
