  • Princeton vs Deluxe Output transformer

Can someone explain the difference between the Blackface Princeton and Blackface Deluxe output transformers. They both have similar power amps, same tubes similar voltages. I ask because I built a Brown deluxe using a PT from an old tube stereo and a deluxe OT I think from Mojo. I never really liked it and the voltages were too high, more in line with Blackface voltages. I figured I could squeeze one more knob on the panel so I converted it to a Blackface Princeton. Sounds pretty good, not a lot of gain but I know there's one less gain stage than a Princeton Reverb. Tremolo works well. My circuit is pretty much stock except for the OT and a 12" speaker. Bottom line, is there any point to try a Princeton OT or is that going to change anything.
    Thanks,
    David

JM2C on this, but if the amp sounds good leave it alone. There are cases where a particularly unsuitable or bad OT can be replaced for a significant improvement but I've never replaced or exchanged the OT in a good sounding amp and noticed a significant improvement. In fact I have two otherwise identical amps right now where the only difference is the OT brand. One is a custom Heyboer ordered specifically for the amp and the other is an off the shelf Hammond (not one of their guitar amp replacements). One amp does sound very slightly better (to me) but I haven't swapped OT's to see if the difference is there or in the circuits, which I think is more likely. I don't plan to either. The difference is tiny.
