Gerry, I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but here it is. Business runs on Insurance. If your product is too dangerous, you can't get insurance at any price and you won't be in business. You may be able to get some local agent to write you a policy, but when the home office sends the Underwriter to interview you and inspect the business, that will be the end of it. If you just lie to the insurance company, or they are just too stupid to understand, they won't pay any claim or refund your premiums. Most small amp compaines are just one law suit away from bankruptcy. Locating the company offshore might provide some protection.

It is obvious that he doesn't give a crap about people's lives. I won't be surprise he already have off shore company in mind. Kill a few and disappears.

That is so true that whenever you try to sell something with dangerous voltage inside, you are taking a big risk. That is the main reason I take it as a hobby even though I kept saying I want to sell my amp one day. The insurance, the S corp all cost money. How much money you can make per amp and how many amp you have to sell just to keep up the expense. far as I concern, I just talk about building and selling amps, but I never even pretend to lift a finger to do it. Mainly just giving my wife an excuse to buy speakers, stuffs that one day I'll sell it.

BTW, he should do well in China, they have the mentality of selling you something that can kill you just to make a fast buck. Look at the baby milk that people end up with liver transplant, wall boards that corrode all pipes, cars that collapse like an accordion upon crashing. He just want to convince people here to justify what he is doing. The main difference is in China, if you get caught in a high profile scam, the government will take you to a firing squad. He is here, all he has to do is claim bankruptcy and he might get away killing people.

Yeah, I'm not very big on insurance. I only buy that which is required by law (like minimal car insurance) and no more. I always figured that "Take no thought for the morrow" thing Jesus said meant, "Don't worry about stuff that may -- or may not -- happen." Be reasonable, sure. But don't "invest" in low-probability outcomes. And it's worked for my family -- including the extended family of kids and grandkids -- my whole life (I'm 61 now, over 30 years self-employed).

Yeah, did that bankruptcy thing too. Not as bad as people make it out to be. Been rich, been poor. All good.

I've been watching this thread. All the while thinking to myself that I learned how to solder when I was ten years old.

The only merit I see here is that it could be used as a teaching tool at a very basic level after addressing the safety issues. Otherwise, it's laughable.

By all means. Anyone who doesn't think exactly like we do should be quickly banned lest they give other people ideas. And we certainly don't want ideas on our forum. They're infectious. People talk about them. Discuss them. Argue about them. Do we really want that kind of thing on a public forum? Soon ideas will be everywhere. Before you know it, people will be thinking outside the box. Thinking for themselves! God forbid! Nip those ideas in the bud. Delete this thread now! Mob rule! Mob rule! Mob rule!

And that's exactly what I mean by "ideas". Someone looks at what I've done and says to himself, "I like this aspect, don't like that. I'm going to do something similar but safer (or bigger, or smaller, or cheaper, or whatever)." And that's a good thing. That's what discussion forums are all about. But none of that can happen if the whole thread gets flushed.
